A lil' glimpse into what I'm doin', thinkin', and dreamin'!
Day 71--May 3, 2008
photo

Woke up at 9:15 A.M.  Headed over to the FBO to see if I was flying this morning.  Not until noon.  ha!  Well, I knew exactly what needed to be done.

I arranged another date with my pillow.  Slept 'til 11:30.

Went up with Van and Jesse (he tagged along) in the twin.  Started performing maneuvers today.  Did steep-turns, power-on stalls, power-off stalls, engine failures everywhere from take-off to cruise flight, and slow flight.  All in all, not too hard to handle.  The maneuvers aren't all that bad.

Except the steep turns!  I was having the HARDEST time with those!  Van says they are the hardest maneuver to learn in the twin.  And now I believe it!  It is so hard to keep the 45-degree angle and stay level!  I guess that's why we practice...

Flew 0.9 hours today.

Played tennis with Evan and Jeremiah this afternoon.  Then went in for a rootbeer float.  The restaurant we went to didn't have any, but we felt like chillin' and talkin', so we asked if we could go buy the ingredients and they make 'em for us.  Yup, they said.  The owner even gave us money to buy 'em.  Sweet action.  So we came back, gave 'em the ice cream and root beer, and watched as they made 'em in some frosted mugs.  Nice!  My waitress turned out to be my  banker!  How 'bout that!  She's a really fun girl...

Went for a short run after eatin' the float.

Hung out with Jeremiah and Evan tonight at their house.  They grilled out some hamburgers, and I was more than happy to eat 'em.  Went to a coffee shop tonight, then headed home early.  I was pretty tired.

Ended up in bed at midnight!  woo hoo!

[OK, so that's how I ended my blog before signing off to go to bed.  But before I hit the covers, I decided to log on to our local newspaper's website first.  And voila!!!  Guess what was on the front page?!  MY PICTURE OF THE STORM TWO DAYS AGO!!!  It's huge!  It's the main story for Saturday!  ha!  What fun!

The caption reads, "Local pilot Andrew Polley, who has a passion for storm chasing, took this photo of the beautiful wall cloud and front of the storm as it came across Chanute on Thursday night.  The picture was taken about three miles southwest of Chanute."

And the story is all about the storm warnings and what to do (and really what not to do).  So at 11:51 P.M., I hop in my car and drive a few miles to a local gas station and pick up five newspapers!  The lady behind the counter just looked at me weird...but didn't ask anything.  Oh, well!  haha...

Then I went to bed at 12:15 P.M.!

That's so fun!  (Thanks, Joanna, for your camera!)  Maybe I've found another calling...haha...
