Woke up at 8:15 A.M.
Stayed at home until about 11:15 A.M. Talked with Dad for a bit, then Jacob and I just relaxed and watched some TV. Then headed for the airport.
Took off from Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport in Springfield at 12:30 P.M. A bit windy today! We were talking yesterday about how nice Illinois is because of the little winds! Kansas is so much worse! But Illinois was givin' us a bit different taste today.
Flew back over to Chanute. Took a straight shot of about 245 degrees. Beautiful day. Flew VFR yesterday and now today. No clouds to worry about along the route. As we flew closer and closer to Kansas, the winds seemed to pick up. As Jacob said, "Wait until we cross the border. That's where they will all be."
He wasn't too far off in his assessment! The winds at Chanute were out of 160 at 26 knots, gusting to 35!!! But, hey, we had to land! Did the normal approach and came on in. Not too bad, as the winds were basically down the runway, but I did end up flaring a bit high, so I had to add some power. All in all, though, I thought it pretty good for 30-knot winds!
The entire trip took 2 hours, 20 minutes with a bit of a headwind. It took me 7 hours to drive to Chanute from Springfield. Needless to say, I'm a big fan of flying.
Took my motorcycle in for a tire change. Took the night pretty easy. Ate out at Subway, and that's about it. Will see about gettin' a job tomorrow to earn some cash and fill up some empty hours.
Went to bed at 2:15 A.M. Had to say up to bring in the beautiful holimonth that I like to call...
Moustache May!!!
So, yes, friends, the deed has been done! Just after midnight.
And she is a beauty!
