Day 46--April 8, 2008

Woke up at 9:10 A.M.

Not much goin' on today.  Clouds are low...ceiling is 900 feet overcast.  We had a pretty strong storm go through last night.  I remember bein' woken up at 1:40 A.M. to loud thunder, bright lightning, and what I thought was the sound of hail.  I hopped up to look out the window, but I was quickly back in bed (one of the reasons being I didn't want to be struck by lightning through the window!).

Went into town today and bought some brake pads.  Came back and went to install the pads myself.  Might as well...I had plenty of time!  I took off my front tire, and I was pleasantly surprised to find that I had plenty of pad left on the front brakes.  Good.

Went to the back ones...and obviously these are the originals.  Absolutely no pad left at all.  Completely worn down to the metal.  The rotor appears to be salvageable, though, so that is good.  Worked and worked and worked on tryin' to replace the pads on the back, but the parts are pretty rusty, and we couldn't get one bolt off.  After a couple of hours, I said it's not worth messin' with!  So I'm takin' it in to have the pads installed.  Let them mess with the pesky bolt!  I just didn't want to break it, or then I would really have a big problem.

Had a Cessna Citation fly in this afternoon.  More guys goin' hunting.  They hopped out, grabbed several guns off the plane, then were whisked away in a 15-passenger van.  It happens more frequently than not around here.  I guess Kansas is the place for choice bird huntin'.  Who knew?!  And this lodge was located in Chanute!  These guys flew in from Georgia.

I'm startin' to immerse myself in the Twin Comanche information.  I started yesterday, and I read some more today.  The twin won't be up for awhile because of an engine rebuild, but I might as well get started on the knowledge part of it.

Went to bed at 11:30 P.M.
