Woke up at 8:48 A.M. Headed to church with Venkat. Hard to believe I was over in Missouri for Easter a week ago already. Time flies here.
I've said it before, but it happened to me again. Just when I think I have my mind wrapped around Chanute, something else happens...
I don't know what it is, but Chanute turns out to be the crossroads for the world. It still amazes me.
In the past few days, I've learned that Venkat flies for the royal family of Saudi Arabia. He is a flight engineer, so he actually doesn't do the piloting (that's why he's here), but he is in charge of the technical data behind the airplane. He described his jet made for 150+ people...but tailor-made to only 26. Complete with a shower, bathtub, etc. Yeah, on a jet. He talks about flyin' with the prince and others...and today he told me about how on one flight with a UN Security Council member he was guided into Washington D.C. flanked by two MiG's. That's just fun stuff if ya ask me.
So there I am, with Venkat (he's Indian, but his citizenship is Canadian), and the girl from the Netherlands, and the girl from Switzerland and her brother visiting from California (they are both exchange students here), and when we head back to the airport, I have my friend from Finland and Jarryd from Australia (though he did recently move). Well, Venkat, Jyri, and I head to Wal-Mart and there we meet a worker from Australia (the accent was a dead give-away, though I did ask if she was from England first), and she tells us we have a German there, too.
I constantly have to remind myself that I'm in Chanute, Kansas!!!
I think Jarryd hit it on the head last week while sitting at El Pueblito when he said..."So an Australian, an Indian, a Finn, and two Americans walk into a Mexican restaurant...this sounds like the beginning to a perfect joke!" So true, so true.
Where am I?!
Another day of no flying! We're just waitin' for the storms to come. We had visibility of 2 1/2 miles and a ceiling of 600 feet overcast today. The temperature has increased throughout the day (it's a nice 59 degrees now), but tonight and tomorrow are lookin' pretty crazy. Thunderstorms, rain, hail, and possible tornadoes are still bein' predicted. Oklahoma is actually under a couple of tornado warnings right now...that's the storm that's goin' to be makin' its way up here. It has the potential to miss us on the west and actually go around us, then start back up again on the east, but it also has the potential to blaze right through us, too. It's a pretty stationary front, and right now it's movin' at 15 mph. It's takin' awhile to get here!
We'll see what happens!
No flying today. Probably none tomorrow. Maybe some on Tuesday. Probably not much on Wednesday! What a week!
Studied more for the oral exam. Looked at motorcycles and just kicked it with the guys here at the pad. Took lots o' cold medicine.
Went to bed at 11:30 P.M. Might as well go to bed early, as I'll probably be woken up by some bright lights and loud noises in a few hours.
