A lil' glimpse into what I'm doin', thinkin', and dreamin'!
Day 33--March 26, 2008

Woke up at 7:52 A.M.  Might as well get a few last-bit pieces of studyin' in, right?!

Headed to the FBO at 9:30 A.M. to take my tests.

And let me tell ya, a big weight has been taken off my shoulders!!!  I scored a 90 on my Instrument Test, an 88 on my Flight Instructor Instrument Test, and a 92 on my Instrument Ground Instructor Test!!!  I'll take all three of those!  I passed 'em all!

At just after 12:30 (that's 3 hours of test-taking!), I came out of the FBO pretty excited!  woo hoo!

Headed back over to the living quarters and shared the news.  Fun stuff.

To celebrate (well, either that or because we were hungry), I went out to eat with the crew at El Pueblito...a pretty nice Mexican restaurant here in town.  Jyri, Van, Jarryd, Venkat, and I all went.  We stayed there close to 2 1/2 hours...just talkin' and shootin' the breeze.  I don't know what it is, but EVERY single pilot has the innate ability to talk.  It just comes naturally to us!  We were talkin' about the jet life and how it compares to the single-engine piston life, and I just sat there, pretty excited the entire time.  I absolutely love what I'm doin'!

Venkat came in last night.  Jyri and Jarryd flew up to Kansas City to pick him up.  He's here to pick up his instrument rating...he's hopin' to do that in two weeks!  wowzers!  A fun guy, though...I'm lookin' forward to hangin' out with him.  I'm not sure the entire story, but he's from India, and he's an A&P Mechanic for some royal family's airplane in the Middle East.  More or less, he flies around on a business jet with the royal family.  That makes for some good stories, too!

So yeah, we have a new guy.  Which brings up a whole new side of flight training.  When I came out of the FBO today after my tests, I saw Jarryd with his coat on.  He said he was out of here.  What?!  Yup, sure enough, I checked his room (I didn't totally believe him), and it was empty.  He's headin' to a different flight school to finish up his rating.  It's only about 15 miles up the road, and it's actually with the instructor he started with a few months ago, but I was pretty shocked.  I knew this day was coming, but not so much that quickly!  With the Twin Comanche down for a couple more weeks, he just wanted to get his rating done.  So he's gone.

I've loved hangin' out with him!  In just a month, we've traveled to Nebraska, Texas, Arkansas, Missouri, and all over Kansas together!  We've been to restaurants in other states together, he's visited my family, and we've hung out every single week!  I'm goin' to miss that guy!  It's part of the routine, I guess.  Guys come in, guys leave.  Shoot, Jyri will be gone in under two weeks.  Venkat will be out of here in two weeks.  And then two new guys will be comin' in at the beginning of April.  The turn-over is pretty quick here.  Get in, get done, get out.  It's a lot of fun while it lasts, but it's pretty short-lived.

Went for a run with Jyri this evening (3.5 miles!  I haven't run that far in months!), then went out with Jyri and Jarryd (we called him up) this evenin'.  I even had my first pickled egg.  And I liked it!

No flyin' done today.  The weather was kind of yucky anyway with ceilings at 300 feet.  Good enough to depart in, but we would not have been able to land back at Chanute...that might be a problem.  Forecast is callin' for possible thunderstorms tomorrow afternoon...we'll see!

Got an e-mail from my dad sometime today sayin' my sister's college had a gun threat.  Kinda scary.  Ended up talkin' to her this evenin'.  Everything's fine, but those aren't the e-mails ya want to get.  I guess she (along with everyone else) was pretty freaked out for awhile.  The school has a system where everyone gets a text message in case of an emergency like this, and so in the middle of class, the entire room starts vibratin'!  haha...everyone's cell phone was goin' off.  They had no idea what was goin' on...but once one student read the message, the whole class became somewhat nervous.  Understandable.

The world we live in.

Went to bed at a very tired 12:30 A.M.  I don't fly in the mornings anymore (woo hoo!), so I can now sleep in!

Oh, did I tell ya I passed my tests?!
