A lil' glimpse into what I'm doin', thinkin', and dreamin'!
Day 26--March 19, 2008

Woke up at 8:24 A.M.  Quickly realized that was a bad idea.  Went back to bed and woke up at 10:30 A.M.  A bit better!

Van was waitin' on me to fly...so we headed off quickly after that!  We flew up to Lawrence and shot the ILS Approach to Runway 33.  Our groundspeed was a terrible 65-75 knots on the way up...some stiff winds up there!  I did a decent but not great approach in...I was a lil' behind the airplane and wasn't ready for my procedure turn and other stuff along the way.  I mean, I flew the course, but it wasn't sharp.  Not terrible.  Not great.  Just a bit loose.

We did a missed approach to the holding pattern of the VOR/DME-A Approach.  I had AGAIN forgot to bring a timer.  Aggh!!!  You need a timer to fly these routes, and this was the second time not havin' one.  Again...a bit behind...this time in preparation.  grr.  Circled to land on Runway 33.

Left from Lawrence and headed to Olathe.  I did the GPS 36 Approach there.  That wasn't too bad...just had a hard time hearing the guy on the tower.  I've got some voice work to do, too...just practicin' what to say, when to say it, how to say it, etc.  It's all about bein' professional!

From there we flew to Miami County Airport in Paola.  It was time for some more barbecue!  Sweet!  So we stopped in for some lunch there.  I absolutely looooove their food there.  Again, they gave me a TON of crinkled fires (couldn't even finish them!) and a very tasteful sandwich.  You can even taste the hickory!  Hard to beat, for sure.

Flew back to Chanute from there...this time at a nice speed of 110 knots...though it was quite bumpy!  Van and I watched as clouds formed before our very eyes.  Kinda crazy.  Totally blue skies.  Then a small cloud.  Then 2.  Then 4.  Then a few more.  Kinda neat.

And in good fashion, Van and I went at it again.  He challenged me a short-field no-flaps landing.  So I came in pretty low and managed to touch down at about the 1000-foot mark.  That Cherokee loves to float!  He had his turn, and he came in and touched at the...1015 mark!  Yeah, that's right, Van!  haha...

Played some basketball today with Megan at the park.  That was quite a fun time.  60 degrees had to be celebrated!  Nothin' like playin' in shorts in March.

Came back, and Megan and I had a free tour of a King Air sittin' on the ramp.  A nice 2001.  Didn't have glass panel...but very nice nonetheless.  But to quote the pilot..."You just can't buy much for six million these days."  Um, yeah, about that...I sure wouldn't mind flyin' it...

Spent the night studyin' for the written.  Got to the point of goin' crazy!  I'm now 85% done with the questions.  We're gettin' there!

I fly tomorrow at 9:00 A.M.  Time to start adjustin' that bed time...hit the sack at 11:30 P.M.
