following Andy Polley as he travels around the world...

BACK IN SPRINGFIELD, ILLINOIS!!!
On November 11, I flew from Dublin, Ireland, back to
Chicago, Illinois, completing this beautiful and memorable trip.
I traveled more than 10,000 miles, slept on numerous couches,
beds, and floors (and one ship!), and spent absolutely zero
dollars on lodging. I simply took strangers up on the offer to
provide a place for me to stay each night. These people
ranged from German to English to Brazilian to Portuguese
to Danish to Irish.
I saw the countries of Ireland, Scotland, England, Portugal,
and Spain (including the Canary Islands down by Africa).
And I have fond memories of each place. I biked the hills in
Scotland. I ate octopus in Portugal. I met the 3-time world
champion moustache grower next to Buckingham Palace in
London. I saw the port where the Titanic last docked in
Ireland. And I lived on a ship for three weeks in Spain.
I will continue to update my blog (the link is up above), so
please continue to check back in and see what new adventures
await! Even though I am back in the States, my mind is still
whirring with ideas, thoughts, questions, and insights! Not to
mention I am trying to figure out what is next on my plate!
As for now, I am adjusting to life back in America. The
United States is fast and loud. Quite a bit different than
the relaxed and laid-back lifestyle I grew accustomed to
across the Big Pond.
But I have enjoyed being back and seeing family and friends.
What's next on the list? I simply don't know.
As I did on my travels, I am taking it one day at a time...

Below is the content of my original web page before I left on
my trip. I have stayed very true to form, except that the
$300 I brought lasted only a couple of weeks. I was
obviously a bit romantic in my dreaming...

On August 13, 2007, I will begin my travels around the
world. I am leaving everything that I know--my family,
my friends, my job--and I will be taking a one-way ticket
into Europe.
The first stop is Dublin--after that, I have no idea. I am
taking the trip one hour at a time. I will take no more than
$300 with me. I am simply banking on the kindness of
strangers to take me in, feed me, and provide a place for me
to sleep.
Thanks to everyone who has encouraged me in this trip!
